Learn This Kickass Way Of Wearing Kiss-Proof Lipstick
3:13 AMHere’s a fitting tribute to all those times when you wanted to kiss a cute guy but realised your red lipstick will probably spread faster than the common flu, or you’re eating a salad at a work lunch and the iceberg lettuce turns pink. All it takes is five short and simple steps to achieve the lippie that never wears off (until you want it to).
STEP 1: Buff Up
A smooth base is the key to locking in lasting color. Use a lip scrub or just your tooth paste to remove flakes and dry skin leaving you with smooth lips.
STEP 2: Hydrate
We’re all prone to crazy dry lips through every season of the year. Your best friend at times like these is a moisturising balm. Apply a chap stick or a lip balm first, and then do the rest of your make-up before coming back to your lips. This ensures the moisture gets locked in.
STEP 3: Be A Prime-A-Donna
Most cosmetic experts will tell you that the primary step in lipstick application is the use of a good primer. If you’re skipping the moisturiser and the scrubbing, your lips will need a healthy dose of primer. It leaves you with smooth, polished lips to work with—lipsticks love this stuff! It provides a base for the lipstick, and also prevents creasing and feathering of the color. If you’ve run out of the magic stuff, just use your concealer like a lipstick base. This also ensures that your lipstick looks exactly like what it was when in the tube.
STEP 4: Fill ‘Em Up
While there have been a number of jokes about lip liner (with hideous pictures as proof), the bottom line is that a liner really helps. It helps lock the color in places and doesn’t let the lipstick bleed to the outer edges. In fact, you should fill in your lips with the liner completely. The liner leaves behind a much-welcome stain that’ll stay even if the lipstick wears off.
STEP 5: Lock ‘N Layer
Lip stains are awesome. Let’s just put it out there for the universe to accept. They’re easier to apply, last longer than lipstick, and don’t really need touch-ups. Finally, layer up with your lipstick to create the perfect pout.
STEP 6: Blot And Repeat
Many experts argue that the blot and repeat method is unbeatable. After you’ve applied the first layer of lipstick, press a tissue paper gently against your lips to get rid of the free color. Now, apply another coat of lippie. And repeat the blotting process. Do this three times.
APPLICATION EXTRAS:
For extra precision always use a lip brush. We know you prefer using it from the tube, but you have to believe us when we tell you that it’s just better this way. The brush pushes the pigment into your lips. It takes a few coats to apply—ergo less fading and smudging.
Skip glossy, shiny lipsticks and replace them with highly pigmented matte colors as they lock in more product and prevent saturation due to lack of moisture.
Use a concealer to clean up the edges of your lips and create the perfectly lined pout. This also helps hold the color in and prevents leakage and feathering at the corners of the lips.
Highlight your cupid’s bow using a pear highlighter—this gives the illusion of plumper lips.
Now that you have all the tools you need to master kiss-proof lipstick, get out there and be fabulous (and kiss whoever you want)!
