Knowing All You Have To About The Most Trending Make-Up Concept Of The Season
6:30 AMWhen I heard the word ‘strobing’ (what is the first thing that comes to your mind?) for the first time, my imagination ran wild. First, I thought it was a new orb-shaped security device with a strong strobe-light like laser. As I read on, I found out it was the most recent makeup trend. The complexity of the word must make you think that it is a complicated makeup method. Quite contrary to that, it is simply a new way of contouring.
It is new and it is trending, so here is all you need to know about strobing!
What Is Strobing?
Of course, the first thing you would associate with strobing is strobe lights (unless you are some other sort of literary genius), and that is quite the right stream of thought. Unlike contouring, where you use light and dark shades to give your face a chiseled look, strobing uses only light with an added glow (a divine goddess) to achieve a similar look. It only requires a good highlighter to do the trick.
What Is The Difference Between Strobing And Contouring?
Every contouring diagram will show you that the darker shades are used to chisel and the lighter shades to highlight. Strobing only uses light to highlight, which completely eliminates the use of the darker shades.
Does It Make You Look Shimmery?
Well yes, it does look more luminescent than sparkling. It usually looks like a healthy glow from within and not like a thick patchy layer of sparkle.
Is Strobing Just A New Fancy Name For Highlighting?
It is definitely very similar, but involves more steps. Just like contouring is using bronzer, but a notch more complicated.
Well, Then Does That Mean Strobing Is Just As Complicated As Contouring?
Contouring involves two shades, a light and a dark one, which means you need to worry about blending two shades onto your skin. With the exclusion of the darker shade, strobing is definitely easier, but it still involves getting your base right (Argh!! Nothing Easy About It). And to get the right base, you definitely need more time and patience. Also, you need to make sure you don’t add too much of the highlighter or use it in the wrong areas. You could end up looking quite scary when you are out in the sun.
How To Get The Look?
First come the basics (CTM! CTM!). Cleanse and moisturize your skin. Then, either mix a little bit of a luminizer in your foundation, or try using one that is a bit dewy. You don’t want to use a foundation with a matte finish for this look. It will make the highlighter look a bit unnatural. Look for the areas where the light naturally hits. These areas are usually the temples, the bridge of your nose, the cupid at the lips, the cheekbones, and the area under the brow. Now enrich these areas using a highlighter. It is advisable to avoid highlighting your forehead – it tends to make your skin look oily.
What Are The Products Involved With Strobing?
You could use the highlighters you have in your make up kit, or the highlighting shades in your contour palette. Liquids and cream based products work really well since they are easy to blend. Highlighting pens are always known to give you good control. Always look for products that are not chunked up with glitter but are subtly shimmery. Like foundation, keeping your skin tone in mind while picking your highlighter is really important, or else your skin could end up looking garish and jarring. For fairer skin tones, pinks and champaigns are recommended. Gold-based products work extremely well with medium skin tones. And for those who carry off a dark skin tone, burgundy or burnt orange shades will work like magic.
