An Insight Into The Most Bizarre Beauty Therapies

5:00 AM

Women’s favorite hobby is looking good. I can vouch for that. And women being women always tend to go over-board with their narcissistic love. But can you imagine the limits a woman can cross to look good? Well, take a look at these 10 absolutely crazy, ridiculous things they do to look good. You might still not be able to imagine the lengths they can go to!

1. Uncomfortable shoes:

Those high heels that women wear, not only gives them height, but also a certain oomph and grace. But these feisty little beasts are not just uncomfortable and painful, but over time they can cause major back problems.
Talking about shoes, I can’t help but mention the Chinese tradition of wrapping the feet of a little baby girl so as to hamper her growth. Sounds torturous!

2. Animals and Humans entrails:

This therapy entails drinking the collagen from chickens, pigs and cows. This Oh-so-miraculous drink apparently reverses signs of aging. If the idea of drinking it grosses you out, then you can also add its powdered form to your coffee and drink it up!
Talking about animal products, the human and animal placentas are said to have medicinal properties which can eliminate toxins, increase the elasticity of the skin, and promote a lovely dewy glow. To use or not to use, that is the question!

3. Rib Removal:

Ouch! This truly sounds painful. But women do travel across seas to get their bottom ribs removed so they have slimmer waistlines. Of course, this is a surgical process, or else we would be left lying dead in a pool of blood if we had to do it any other way! It is interesting to know that this process even existed way back in the 1800’s. When we speak of this day and age, if women can go so far as getting a “boob job” done, rib removal is just another cosmetic procedure to tick off.

4. Snake Venom Cream:

Want to know who swears by this one? It is none other than Gwyneth Paltrow. I squirm at the thought of it, but word has it, that it is a lot like botox, and helps in plumping up the skin. Up for a snake chase?

5. Leech therapy:

Those blood-sucking leeches you hate! Well it’s time you fall in love with them. This so called therapy gets creepier than the snake venom. Ugly, slimy leeches are left to crawl on your turpentine-slathered skin, and suck up your blood. While they suck, they leave an enzyme that enters your blood stream and detoxifies you. This one came about many years ago, when an Egyptian (very believable) doctor used this therapy to cure diseases. The likes of Demi Moore admit to have tried this therapy. Hats off to her for her guts!

6. Fish Pedicure:

This one is a more common, less spooky procedure than the rest of the lot – but spooky nevertheless! Live fish feeding on your dead skin is like a miniature version of sharks feeding on your flesh. Sounds utterly bizarre! But for those who love it, it’s all hail Garra Rufa.

7. Vampire Facial:

Well we could safely brand this one as the heights of ridiculousness. And you wouldn’t be surprised who underwent this treatment, in anticipation for younger looking skin…Wait For It… Kim Kardashian! A large syringe is used to pump out blood from your arm, and then the blood is pumped back in to your face, with tiny needles. Of course she has made a video of her getting this treatment done. I am sure that video is going viral after you read this. (*Chuckles*)

8. Bird Poop Facial:

I am actually sighing as I am writing this, because I realize how mental a woman can get to look pretty. So apparently, there is a Guanine enzyme that is found in bird droppings. This enzyme is known to exfoliate, cleanse and brighten up your skin, when smeared. There’s more – the Nightingale’s poop is said to be most effective. The only good news is that the feces is sterilized before it is added to the face mask. The unworthy poop is prized at about 200 dollars. The Japanese owe their beautiful, porcelain-like skin to this one.

9. Urine Treatment:

We have heard about people drinking their own urine, owing to its medicinal properties. So it is not surprising that urine has antibodies, and certain nutrients and restorative properties in them. Apparently it can clear skin, cure psoriasis, rid acne, and even reduce wrinkles. Not a bad idea to collect some the next time you pee, or is it?

10. Bee Venom Mask:

As if the snake venom wasn’t enough, bee venom is another insane treatment women get done. And the dainty, elegant, classy and Oh-so-Intelligent Kate Middleton is guilty of having gotten this treatment done. It is ridiculously expensive but it is a natural alternative to Botox.

The scary bit – when applied as a cream or a mask, the skin actually reacts the same way as it would to a bee sting. The blood and collagen that gushes to the skin to heal it is what makes this treatment work. Not Worth Trying!

W.C Fields once said, “No doubt exists that all women are crazy; it’s only a question of degree”, Being a woman myself, I absolutely second that.
