How often do you get to pee while you are at work? Are you a person who can spend hours without taking a break to go to the washroom, no matter how many liters of water you drink in a day? Well, counting the number of times you pee might not seem important to you. But, did you know the number of times you pee in a day is a very important factor in determining how hydrated your body is?

So, how do you know how often you must visit the loo or if your body is hydrated enough?

Well, there is no definite number of times you need to pee. On an average, an adult tends to pee five to seven times in a day. But, if you urinate more than seven times, do not panic. There are several factors that can influence the frequency of urination. For example, if you drink more water, you will automatically pee quite often. And if you drink bladder irritants such as coffee, alcohol, etc., you will tend to urinate more.

Some people can hold in their pee for quite long (though it’s not a good practice!) while others cannot because of their sensitive bladders. Let’s average it out. Assuming that you drink two liters of water in a day, if you pee more than 11 times, there is definitely some problem.

Frequent urination is usually the result of an overactive bladder. Luckily, you can train your bladder and restore it to its normal condition with the help of your urologist.

There are several other urine related facts that can help you determine your health. A few of them are mentioned below:

  1. The normal color of your urine must be see-through yellow.
  2. Holding in your pee for a long time is not a good habit. And, if it hurts down there when you hold your pee, there is definitely some problem.
  3. If your pee smells sweet, there are chances that you might have diabetes.
  4. As you age, you tend to pee more.
  5. Some foods can cause the color of pee to change.
  6. The average stream of urination is seven to eight seconds.

Now that you know its importance, monitor how many times you pee in a day. If you feel there is any underlying issue, contact your doctor immediately.
