My 70s Health-Nut Parents Didn’t Vaccinate Me. This Is What My Childhood Was Like
8:59 AMPeople who take the anti-vaccine stance often point out that vaccinations sterilize the natural immunity of our bodies. If you are one among these paranoid lots, you may probably change your opinion on vaccination after reading my story:
I am a child of the 70s. My parents brought me up in the healthiest way possible – I was on a perfect diet of raw milk, organic cereals, veggies, seasonal fruits, and meat, and took daily supplements of Echinacea, cod liver oil, and vitamin C. Fruit juices were diluted with water so that I do not spoil my teeth. My mother also monitored the amount of water I drank in a day. Growing up on a countryside farm in the lap of nature allowed me to have these privileges. I had plenty of time for sports and dance, and I used to walk to my school daily. A very limited treat of crisps and fries (so called ‘junks’) was given, that too when my parents invited their friends over to our place for dinner. Whenever I got ill, I was given homeopathic medicines. My mother preferred aromatherapy and osteopathy over medicines and drugs. There were no MSG, aspartame, and additives in my food. Plastic shoes and all those ‘cool stuff’ were a complete no-no and I wasn’t allowed pop at all. TV shows and books were also of mom’s choice. She was a typical country woman who didn’t drink, smoke, or take drugs.
Yet, as I was growing up, I contracted measles, rubella (nowadays two shots of MMR vaccination takes care of it. It is very important for girls), scarlatina, whooping cough, mumps, tonsillitis, and chickenpox. When I was 21, I developed quinsy that was penicillin-resistant. After I had kids, I got precancerous HPV. Thankfully, it was safely removed. The question was, how could I, with my perfect childhood and all that amazing health food, get so sick all the time?
Now that I am a mother, I know the pains she must have taken to bring me up like this. I have also breastfed my kids for a year without giving them anything sweet, just like she did. However, I am very strict about my kids’ vaccinations. They have been saved from all the illnesses that made my childhood miserable. I put my kids on antibiotics whenever they develop some fever or chest congestion. Thankfully, they are very healthy, and hardly ever get ill.
I am relieved that my children won’t suffer the way I did. Measles can make you deaf, rubella can harm your womb, and meningitis can kill you.
Worried about “vaccine injuries”? It is petty when compared to the complications and miseries preventable childhood illnesses may affect you with. Rely on science and research and never pay heed to anecdotal advice. If the vaccination rates drop, the herd immunity will be at stake, and bring back all those diseases that we had thought dead.
