Our body is our temple. It is a mind-boggling entity capable of unbelievable things. A little knowledge and willpower can transform you into doing things you never thought you could, and one of them is healing yourself. But today, I would like to talk particularly about the ear and its link with stress. Without any further ado, let me unfold the magic.

All That We Know About The Ears:

The most basic things that we all know about our ears are that they are one of the most important sense organs and that they can detect sound. They are also responsible for body positioning and balance. But did you know that according to the revolutionary Chinese Acupressure, our ears have certain points at certain places that can be pressed to alleviate certain problems, especially stress. So read on and find out which point relates to what, and how a little pressure can solve serious problems. Do take a look at the picture above to find the right point.

Point Zero:

Typically, the point zero is physiologically and geometrically the center of the ear. Being the master point, it is the point of support and directly relates to the umbilical cord and the solar plexus. It is responsible for bringing the whole body towards homeostasis, or keeping the internal stability in the body. It is also responsible for bringing about a balance of energy, keeping track of the brain activity and taking care of the hormones. It also supports the actions of all the other points on the ear, and then restores the body to its ideal state, that is the state in which it was while it was in the womb. If you take a close look and relate, the Point Zero is located exactly where the umbilical cord rises from in the abdomen. So technically, this point serves as a brain to the visceral organs or those organs that work on feelings and emotions instead of intellect. It does this through the peripheral nerve ganglia. Massaging this point is a great idea to maintain a state of peace, tranquility and happiness.

Shen Men:

This point is also called the “gateway to heaven”. The purpose of this point is to keep the mind in a tranquil state and allow a harmonious connection with the spirit. This point is the most essential to relieve pain, tension, stress, anxiety, depression, restlessness, excess sensitivity and insomnia. This was essentially one of the first points prescribed to patients who were looking for detoxification from any abused substance such as drugs and alcohol. It is advisable to put some pressure on this point, or keep massaging if you feel anxious or stressed or find yourself unable to get a good night’s rest. Pressurizing this point can also cure inflammatory diseases, epilepsy, fever, coughs and even high blood pressure.

Sympathetic Autonomic Point:

This point is used to balance out the sympathetic nervous system. It has a huge, complex medical explanation, which we, being untrained in acupressure, might not understand, but, very simply, this point is responsible for improving blood circulation. It is a heart point and, therefore, corrects irregular heartbeats. It also calms muscle spasms. This point is quite powerful and is also used to treat kidney stones, gastric ulcers, asthma, gallstones, abdominal distension and cure any dysfunction of the autonomic nervous system.

Allergy Point:

Well, just as the name suggests, this point reduces any inflammatory reactions that are related to rheumatoid arthritis, asthma or allergies. It also helps eliminate toxins. It also helps to throw out metabolic wastes and treat anaphylactic shocks. This point is usually pinched to treat the allergy.

Thalamus Point:

This one is also the brain point or the pain control point. There is a lot of science to this point, and it represents the thalamus and the hypothalamus. So, by now, you should know that this point cares for the nervous system and also the endocrine glands. The thalamus is an amazing point, and a little pressure on this point can treat acute and chronic pain. It is also a point that can reduce depression, anxiety, neurasthenia, over-excitement, schizophrenia, swelling, shock, sweating, coronary disorders, hypertension, nausea, diarrhea, vomiting, liver disorders, constipation, cardiac arrhythmias and also gall bladder dysfunctions. That is a lot of goodness in a single point! To summarize this, the thalamus point calms the mind and strengthens the brain.

Endocrine Point:

This point regulates the endocrine hormones, bringing them to their homeostatic levels. So, they either raise or lower the glands’ secretions. It activates the pituitary gland below the brain. You must know that the pituitary gland controls the other endocrine glands. This point also helps in relieving rheumatism, hyperthyroidism, diabetes mellitus, hypersensitivity, sexual dysfunction, irregular menstruation and urogenital disorders.

Master Oscillation Point:

Another brain point, this one helps in overcoming dyslexia, attention deficit disorders and learning disabilities. Oscillation occurs when people are unusually sensitive to medication or have autoimmune problems. So this point can help cure that. This master point balances laterality disorders related to the left and right cerebral hemispheres.

Tranquilizer Point:

Tranquility relates to sedation, so this point is an overall relaxation point. It helps in relieving chronic stress, high blood pressure and anxiety in general.

The Eye Point:

Also known as the Master Sensorial Point, this one is used to reduce any excessive sensation. By this, I mean blurred vision, ringing ears, etc.

Master Cerebral Point:

Stimulation of this point can do wonders. Starting with the reduction of fear, anxiety, worry, lassitude, poor memory, dream-disturbed sleep, OCD’s (obsessive compulsive disorders), nervousness, psychosomatic disorders and negative thinking, it also helps in alleviating any pain that follows these mentioned problems.

Looks like we definitely took our ears for granted! But now that you know these points and what they can cure, the next time, God forbid, you face a problem, all you need is a little massage on the particular point on your ear and RELIEF!
