9 Most Painful Places To Get A Tattoo: Ouch!

3:30 AM

Tattoos – surely permanent and painful, but still everyone wants at least one. I myself have a tattoo and am planning to get two more. But, since I have already gone through this painful phase, I thought of giving you some insight – some of the most painful places on your body to get a tattoo on. Knowing these has prevented me from making the same mistake twice – and it might help you too.

Scroll down to find out the top 12 most painful places to get inked.

1. Spine:

Your spine is made up of 26 bones, starting from the neck till the base of your buttocks, and each tattoo you are going to get along them is going to hurt you more. I must say, the spine is the most painful place to get a tattoo on.

Quick Tip: To escape from the extreme pain, you can get the tattoo inked either on the left or the right side of your back. Otherwise, you might find yourself squinting and squirming with pain.

2. Behind The Ear:

Getting a tattoo behind the ear is probably going to be more agonizing. However, the pain doesn’t beat its popularity.
Luckily, you need not wait for a long time to get the tattoo done, as you usually get small tattoos there.

How To Numb The Pain?

Your tattoo artist can help numb your pain using a specialized cream. However, it’s not going to numb your pain entirely.

3. Inner Arms:

What could be more painful than getting a tattoo done on the inner arm? As with other painful areas of the body, the inner arm is really going to hurt a lot.

But Why Does It Hurt?

The culprit here is the thin skin. Nerves react instantly to any needle and give a feeling more or less like a scratching burn. So, be prepared!

4. Foot:

It isn’t the most desirable place to get a tattoo. At first, you will find the tattoo session pretty manageable – but as the session goes on, you’ll start feeling the pain! The pain gets even worse when you reach the top of the feet.

Quick Tip: Take a break of 5 to 10 seconds occasionally throughout the session to give your foot a little wiggle! Also, choose a tattoo artist you really enjoy talking to and feel comfortable with – the time will tick much faster and will distract you from the pain!

5. Chest:

While getting inked on the chest, the tattoo gun will be so close to your body, that you’ll feel the pain even before the artist starts his work. And yes, the vibration of the needle is going to be a hell lot more noticeable this time!

The Reason

The chest has bones and is layered with a thin and malleable skin that lacks muscle. If you’re too skinny, be prepared with a bactine spray to keep the tattooing process from hurting.

6. Sternum:

The reason for pain in the sternum while getting a tattoo done is almost similar to that of the chest. Sternum extends down towards the stomach, thereby causing painful vibrations originating in the chest.

I would say just two words for sternum tattoos: NOT PLEASANT!

7. Ankle:

Try to avoid the ankle tattoo at any cost – it pains like hell! Most of the people I spoke to who have an ankle tattoo suggested me to skip that, no matter what.

How To Escape The Pain?

If you’re too passionate about having a tattoo on your ankle, either go around the bone or at the bottom, but getting tattooed right on the bone is not suggested.

8. Neck:

Ouch, and more ouch! You don’t have a padding of muscles in your neck area, so it’s quite obvious that you’re not going to have a comfortable session. Moreover, you should not forget the fact that you move your neck the whole day – this means it’s going to take a little longer to heal as well!

9. Clavicle:

The clavicle is one of the most delicate bones in the body and another painful place to get inked on. The closer you move towards the bone, the more you’re likely to feel the pain.

Whether it’s just skin and bones, we all know that it’s definitely going to hurt. Choosing an area that is a little fleshier can help make things slightly better (that doesn’t mean it’s going to be pain-free!)

Don’t worry – once you are through this pain, you’ll be walking out with something so special that makes the pain all worth it. No pain, no gain, right?
