Does Oxygen Therapy Cure Cancer?

6:14 AM

Is oxygen therapy an effective alternative form of treatment for cancer? Diseases such as cancer and AIDS are killers, and hence, health experts have been trying hard for decades to get a perfect solution to overcome them. Unfortunately, cancer, although to some extent is curable, still is the cause of thousands of deaths in the world.

The medical fraternity is now looking up to oxygen therapy to provide a reliable cure for treating cancer (1). Is it really effective? How? This post has the answers. Read on to know more.

Facts About Oxygen Therapy:

The past few years have seen a sudden increase in the popularity of oxygen therapy as one of the most effective forms of alternative treatments for treating cancer. The therapy has caught the attention of the health experts and the media, and is one of the most talked about treatments around in the past few years.

Apart from cancer, the therapy might also be effective in treating several other health problems ranging from headaches to AIDS (2). One of the important reasons of its growing popularity is that the treatment is simple and is comparatively inexpensive than the regular cancer treatments. However, even now, the medical community has not shown much confidence in this treatment, as the evidence does not support the claim about its potential benefits.

Separating Facts And Fiction:

The proponents of oxygen therapy feel that the therapy has unlimited potential, and there is indeed a valid reason for that. For years, health sciences have been trying hard to identify the primary physical cause of different diseases and one basic cure for all. Now, the researchers believe that they have stumbled upon something similar. However, the solution is so simple that it has taken time for the experts to accept it at the first instance.

The new solution says that the main cause of all the diseases is the lack of adequate amount of oxygen. According to a health scientist, Forest, it is evident by the fact that the body is mostly composed of water, out of which eight-ninths is oxygen, and since oxygen is the only constant demand of the body, lack of it leads to immediate death.

Types Of Oxygen Therapy:

There are different ways in which oxygen therapy is administered. However, the main basis of its administration remains the same.

1. Oxidative Therapy:

The body produces hydrogen peroxide for carrying out different functions. The main role of hydrogen peroxide is to help the body use oxygen for breathing. Thus, it is an important part of a system that regulates the living cell membranes of the body. Hydrogen peroxide also aids in the regulation of hormones and the immune system. It also regulates the chemicals in the nervous system and also in the production of blood sugar and cell energy. But the main aim of hydrogen peroxide, as well as ozone, is to provide the maximum amount of oxygen to the body cells (3).

The fact that the biochemical reactions taking place inside the body are mainly reduction oxidation reactions necessitates the constant supply of oxygen.

However, it can lead to several problems because, to stay in balance, any substance that is reduced chemically to something has to be oxidized. The process of oxidation, on the other hand, can cause negative consequences even though it is known to sustain the life and also is an integral part of the immune system. That is why the oxidative or oxygen therapy is required for encouraging the oxidation of the tissues and cells.

Another perspective says that oxygen therapy not only helps in repairing the cells, but also protects the body against foreign substances that are harmful. The fact that almost all of the microorganisms sustain and thrive in oxygen levels lower than the body cells supports this theory. Thus, if the oxygen levels in the body are increased, it will not only purify the cells but will also destroy the harmful pathogens in the body.

2. Ozone Therapy:

Ozone therapy is equally effective as oxidative therapy because, instead of knocking out the organs such as the liver with drugs, this therapy oxidizes the molecules within the virus shell. The treatment is performed using ozone as the main component and is produced by forcefully pumping in oxygen through a 300-volt charge metal tube.

The doctors then draw a pint of blood from the patient and mix it gently in an infusion bottle along with the ozone until the blood is bright red in color. During the process, just as the ozone molecules begin to dissolve in the blood, they share their oxygen atom thereby releasing lots of energy that has the capacity to destroy all the lipid-enveloped viruses along with the other organisms that cause disease. On the positive side, no blood cell is harmed during the process.

On the other hand, this process leaves the blood more oxygenated than normal. This treated blood is then injected into the patient and the process of administration begins. The requirement of blood treated with ozone therapy depends upon the severity of the disease (4). The injected blood is stronger and shares its virucidal properties with the rest of the blood of the patient as it disperses. It is believed that the ozone molecules finally even out to reach an equilibrium, and in the process release plenty of energy that is enough to destroy the cancerous cells.

During the entire process, the state of the patient is maintained if he diets, exercises and breathes deeply regularly.

3. Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy:

It is considered the most effective form of oxygen therapy used for treating cancer and other serious diseases (5). In this therapy, a hyperbaric chamber is used that increases its effectiveness. A person normally breaths around 21% oxygen, but during the hyperbaric oxygen therapy, you are made to breath pure oxygen with the pressure surrounding your body up by two to three times than normal. It leads to the breathing in of oxygen at a higher percentage, thus introducing more oxygen to the cells. A Higher concentration of oxygen in the blood instigates rapid cell repair action and elimination of dead and dangerous cells.

Thus, oxygen therapy has the potential to aid in curing cancer and many other deadly diseases. However, more research and substantial clinical evidence is required in this direction to establish its effectiveness.
