4:27 AM

Who doesn’t like a relaxing bubble bath at the end of a hectic day? Sinking into a bath full of soapy suds, the lukewarm water leaching away the stress from your body – absolute heaven! But what makes a bubble bath even more gratifying is making your very own at your home.

Store-bought bubble bars, especially the natural or exotic smelling ones, cost a lot. If you can make ten of these at the cost of one, why not make a bubble bar that you can use for yourself or give as a gift?

This post talks about the different recipes for making your own bubble bar at home. Read on to know more!

1. Antifungal Bubble Bar:

To make an antifungal bath bar, you need:

  • 1 cup Soda bicarbonate
  • 1 cup cream of tartar
  • 1 cup sodium lauryl sulfate (SLS)
  • ½ cup liquid soap concentrate
  • Dried margosa leaves
  • Citric acid
  • Eucalyptus essential oil
  • Lemon essential oil

Instructions:

  1. Blend equal parts of the essential oils in a small bowl.
  2. Combine the soda bicarb, cream of tartar, SLS, citric acid and dried margosa leaves with a mix, but be gentle so as to not to send the dry mix flying everywhere.
  3. Precisely mix in 16 drops of the essential oils with the soda mix. Both the oils and margosa leaves have antifungal properties.
  4. Pour the liquid soap into the mixture and mix with a spoon until it hardens a little. Now knead the mixture until everything is well incorporated.
  5. Spread it out in a tin and cut into pieces.

2. Moisturizing Bubble Bar:

To make this moisturizing bubble bar, you need:

  • 3 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 3 tablespoon cream of tartar
  • 1 cup baking soda
  • 1 cup SLS
  • 1 tablespoon tapioca starch
  • ½ cup glycerine
  • 1 tablespoon moisturizing oil
  • Orange essential oil

Instructions:

  1. Mix the dry ingredients in one bowl and all the wet ingredients except glycerine in another bowl.
  2. Slowly mix the contents of the two bowls.
  3. Add the glycerine, one tablespoon after another, until you get your desired consistency. If you want a crumbly soap, use less glycerine.

3. Colorful Rose And Orange Bar:

For this fragrant, uplifting bubble bar, you need:

  • 1 cup soda bicarb
  • ¾ cup tartaric acid
  • 2 tablespoons of almond oil
  • ¾ cup SLS
  • ½ cup cornstarch
  • 70 grams of Cocamidopropyl betaine
  • Rose essential oil
  • Orange essential oil
  • Two contrasting gel food colors

Instructions:

  1. Mix the first three ingredients with a whisk in one bowl. Similarly, the cornstarch, SLS and Cocamidopropyl betaine have to be mixed in another bowl. The mixtures should be like thick pastes, but should be kneaded until they retain the shape of your hand.
  2. Now mix the two mixtures together. This is done as a separate step instead of mixing all the ingredients together. The reason for this is to keep the Cocamidopropyl from fizzing when it comes in contact with soda bicarb and tartaric acid – an effect that is desired in the bubble bath.
  3. Add the essential oils and knead.
  4. Separate the mixture in two halves and knead them with different colors. Now mold the two pieces together in any way you want.

Some Tricks To Pretty Up Your Bar:

Here are some neat tricks you can use to make your bar more festive and appropriate as a gift:

  • As in the last recipe, make bubble bar doughs of two different colors, layer on over the other and roll. This will form a Swiss roll of the bubble bar that you can cut into slices.
  • If you have spare truffle molds, fill them with the soap paste and let them set. Now you have cute little bubble bars of any shape you want.
  • You can also use cookie cutters to cut into a sheet of bubble bar dough.
