For Fever:

If your baby has a fever, try using these remedies to comfort him.

1. Soup For Babies:

If your baby is 7 months old, feed him some rasam during the day to reduce fever and cold. Rasam is a soup dish made of tomato and garlic. It is quite popular in South India and is often used to take care of both the babies and growing children. The recipe is quite simple and doesn’t take much time to prepare. However, you need to omit heavy spices while cooking.

2. Garlic Potli (Poultice):

The garlic and ajwain (carom) potli is an excellent home remedy for babies who are aged six months and above. You have to warm both garlic and ajwain in a piece of cloth, warm them and apply to the baby’s chest. Don’t do so directly. Check the temperature properly before rubbing gently.

3. Vapour Rub:

In order to reduce the temperature, you can always rub Vapour Rub on the baby’s feet and put on socks. Do this twice a day before he falls asleep.

For Blocked Nose:

4. Saline Drops:

One of the safest remedies tried and tested for baby cold would be saline drops. They will effectively loosen the mucous in your baby’s nose and allow him to breathe better (1). Make sure you place your baby in an elevated position. This will allow the mucous to move out of the nostrils in an easier way.

5. Humidifier:

You can always add a humidifier to your baby’s room to prevent his nose from getting blocked. Some extra moisture is very important in order to prevent the snot from crystallising and keep the baby’s nose unblocked.

For Baby’s Congestion:

6. Coconut Oil:

Coconut Oil is popularly used for treating cold and congestions. You could simply massage your child two to three times a day using this or rub some coconut oil around the nostrils. This will not only ensure soft and smooth skin for your baby, but will also boost absorption and aid in quick recovery (2).

7. Give Your Baby A Lukewarm Bath:

You can also give your baby a nice lukewarm bath to relieve all the symptoms of cold and fever (3). Simply add a drop of peppermint oil to the water. You can also massage peppermint oil all over the baby’s feet in order to reap quick results.

8. Use Onions:

This trick should definitely help your baby’s fever and congestion go down. Place a few fresh slices of onion in your baby’s sock. Use a bigger sock so that the onions fit in it. When the onion turns brown, you will notice the fever has gone down.

9. Try Lavender Oil:

Lavender Oil can also be used to treat a bad cold. Just make sure it’s diluted. Apply and massage all over the baby’s neck, feet and behind the ear. The results will show soon.

10. Lemon Juice:

If your baby is above a year old, the honey and lemon juice drink should really work wonders for him. Just add some warm water to an empty glass. Top it with some lemon juice and a drop of honey. Make your baby drink this twice a day.

Taking care of your baby during sickness can be quite a cumbersome task. However, the tips mentioned above will hopefully ease the process and allow your baby to heal soon.
