Shocking! This Hindu Monk Claims To Be 120 Years Old. Here’s How He Did It!

Can you guess the real age of this Hindu monk by looking at his face? Maybe around 80 or 90 years?

Well, if you guessed the same as me, you’re wrong. He claims that his age is 120. And if we believe what he claims, he is the oldest man alive in the whole world. According to his passport, he was born on August 8, 1896 in Varanasi, which means he has spanned three centuries! The passport authorities have also confirmed his date of birth after checking the temple registers as these were the only proofs of birth of people during that period.

Surprisingly, even at this age, he is strong enough to perform yoga, that too, non-stop for hours! He is now going to apply to the Guinness Book Of World Records to verify his claim. According to the current issue of the Guinness Book of World Records, the oldest man who ever lived was Jiroemon Kimura from Japan, who lived for 116 years and 54 days and died in June 2013.

You might wonder how this Varanasi-based monk, Swami Sivananda, managed to live such a healthy life for so long? According to him, the things that help him stay fit and healthy even at this age are yoga, non-spicy food, and no sex. Here is the short story of his life:

Swami Sivananda hailed from the city of Varanasi and was six years of age when his parents died. He grew up in poverty, and it was then that his relatives gave him to a spiritual guru. He traveled with that guru around India and finally settled in Varanasi.

“I lead a simple and disciplined life. I eat very simply — only boiled food without oil or spices, rice and boiled daal (lentil stew) with a couple of green chilies”, told Sivananda after a two-hour yoga session in Kolkata.

He sleeps on the floor with a wooden pillow. He also said, “I avoid taking milk or fruits because I think these are fancy foods. In my childhood, I slept many days on an empty stomach.”

He does not suffer from any medical conditions and travels alone in buses and trains. He is not accustomed to new technologies and is happier living that way.

“Earlier, people were happy with fewer things. Nowadays, people are unhappy, unhealthy and have become dishonest, which pains me a lot,” he says. “I just want people to be happy, healthy and peaceful.”

So, this was all about the oldest Hindu monk and his discipline. We hope you enjoyed reading this article. Share your views in the comments section below.
