6 Little Things That Can Affect Your Health In Big Ways
1:13 AMAmidst the hustle and bustle of our daily lives, there are many things we take for granted. We struggle to be healthy, but we ignore those little things that can cause great harm over a period. So, here is a little reminder of a few things that you can totally avoid, in order to make sure you live a wee bit healthier. Take a look and steer clear.
Presenting the 6 “harmless” ways you are spoiling your health:
1. Guzzling From Bottles :
Well, on a hot day, or post a vigorous workout session, there is nothing like glugging a cold refreshing drink – and it’s even more satisfying when it is straight out of a bottle. But that pleasure could turn out to be quite risky, especially when you use those bare fingers to first wipe off that trickling sweat, and then swipe them on the bottle you will be drinking from. The germs (or the E. coli, to be more defined) gets transferred onto the opening of the bottle, which then goes into your mouth. Not so refreshing any more, is it??
2. Being Indoors For Most Of The Day :
Surprise! Surprise! Amidst the scorching heat and flaming sun, spending time indoors can be more fatal than being outdoors. The reason being – stale air. Well, when you sit in an air-conditioned office or a home with all windows shut, the same air keeps rotating and you end up inhaling it. It gets worse in a freshly painted room, which emits VOCs or Volatile Organic Compounds that your body cannot accept after a point. Over time, it could pose a serious threat to the nervous system.
3. Popping Open The Popcorn Bag :
Not like Microwave popcorn is healthy any way, but making it worse is the UV rays that the microwaves emit. Some researchers also say that the non-greasy bags the popcorn comes in contains carcinogenic chemicals that get transferred onto the corn as they get cooked. Major Bad News!!!! Looks like we need to go for the movies with a bag of chips instead.
4. Naphthalene Balls:
Naphthalene balls are known to keep those pesky pests at bay, but they can be quite pesky themselves. It is best to make sure you don’t touch them, because even inhaling naphthalene can cause irreparable damage to the nervous system.
5. Slumber Loving:
6 to 8 hours is the Mantra when it comes to sleeping. Well, sleeping less leads to weight gain and also reduces your life span, but sleeping for more than 9 hours at a stretch puts you at the risk of heart diseases.
6. Skin Tight Jeans:
Tight clothes do not let your skin breathe. But when you venture out and wear super-skinny jeans, you are at a risk of nerve damage. The compression from the cloth causes the lateral femoral cutaneous nerve (it is okay even if you can’t pronounce it) to throb and pain. So, it seems best to opt for baggier jeans.
It is best to be aware and keep note of everything around you. Whether it is keeping your mobile phone on flight mode, or cutting down on those extra unnecessary carbs, it is best to follow these little things to stay safe and healthy. Think about it – it is our laziness that really hinders us from following simple rules. How hard is it to go out for a little walk, even for fifteen minutes a day, to get some fresh air? How difficult is it to sleep and wake up on time? A little practice and some perseverance will do the trick.
