This Makeup Trend Is Catching Up With Strobing, And It Is Downright Awesome

How about learning to bake/cook without utensils or any need of culinary skills? Confused? So was I when I first heard about baking! With a plethora of different contouring methods coming into vogue (strobing, clown contouring, if you have missed out on what is trending), baking is quite the latest technique. And this one gets you thinking on the lines of cupcakes and savory pies, only to burst your bubble. But trust me, using this makeup technique will leave you just as happy as gobbling a hot cake. Let’s take you through everything you need to know about baking.

Going Back To The Roots – When Did Baking Come Into Play?

Interestingly, this concept is quite old school. You do know that fashion runs around in circles – something trends and falls, and comes back again in a few years with a little twist. Well, baking is no different. Ten years ago, this form of makeup was taught to students at a beauty school. It was usually to model drag queens in movies or plays that needed special effects like bruises or a changed face shape. It is quite ironic that it has come around this time for beauty queens.

What Is Baking/Cooking?

Let’s begin with the basics. Call it whatever you want, be it baking or cooking, this technique comes under contouring. Therefore, it automatically comprises of shading and highlighting. But in this method, you would apply and remove a product, such that it gives you coverage as well as highlights the areas that need to be highlighted.

What Is The Product Involved With Baking?

As complicated as it sounds, all you need to perfectly bake your face is a concealer, some loose powder, and a little bit of time – which means that it is not a quick makeup technique. Hence, it’s for those special occasions when you need to look drop-dead gorgeous.

How Do You Bake Your Face?

Step One:

Use an eye cream, and baste around the eyes to avoid all the products from caking.

Step Two:

Now add a thick, cream-based layer of concealer under the eyes, and towards the temples. Make sure you blend in with a sponge.

Step Three:

Using a lighter tone or a brighter shade of concealer, pat on another layer over the creamy layer of concealer.

Step Four:

This step is called the pre-set. All you need to do is use some translucent powder, and dust over the concealed under eye.

Step Five:

Now it’s time to bake! Dip a damp sponge into more powder, and apply under the eyes.

Step Six:

This is the boring bit, which could actually turn into a lot of fun. Play on your favorite episode on TV or whip up a quick sandwich while you wait for about 30 minutes. This is when the product bakes.

Step Seven:

Using a nice fluffy brush and dust off the excess product from your under eyes – but be sure that the five layers of concealer and powder are still intact. Once the product is brushed away, lightly blend in harsh edges, if any, with a beauty blender or the moist end of a sponge. Mission accomplished!

What Actually Happens During The Process?

The concealer melts into your skin and leaves you looking flawless while adding a perfect natural glow.

What Do You Achieve With This Technique?

You already know that this makeup method can be used to highlight your under eye area, but what you also achieve out of it is correction. Yes! You heard that right! Look into the mirror, and you will find those irritating dark circles gone. If correction is more a reason you are using baking, then make sure you use a concealer that is closest to your normal skin tone. For highlighting, you need to use lighter tones.

Who Could Use The Baking Technique?

Baking is good for women with youthful skin. As you grow older, the wrinkles will get more prominent while you bake.

Also, this technique looks amazing when pictures are taken professionally in great lighting. If you use your phone camera for Instagram pictures while you are at a party, the baked areas could look a bit patchy in the flicks.

Do everything you can while you are young and adventurous. Today it is baking, and tomorrow it might be grilling, but no matter what it is, be yourself and stay beautiful!
