How To Do Bronzer Makeup?

4:22 AM

Luckily, those days are gone when you had to step outside into the sun to fake your tan – all thanks to the newest crop of bronzers.

A magic in itself, bronzer can instantly transform any complexion without going overboard. Plus, they give a natural, radiant look even if your skin doesn’t naturally turn tan in the sun. So if you are looking for a quick and natural-looking glow, then read ahead, as we’ll demonstrate to you how to choose the right shade and apply it — this time, the right way!

Did Hue Know?

When it comes to bronzer, the key step is to find the perfect shade for your skin. Pick a colour that is one or two shades darker or too strong than your natural complexion. Otherwise, you will be crossing into the unnatural zone.

Pale Skin:

The trick is to add a touch of golden warmth to your skin without going too orange-y. So opt for sheer, beige-browns or in honey-toned bronzers. Our favourite is MAC Mineralize Skinfinish in Soft N Gentle ($32). We love this hue because it’s lightweight and neutral enough to give a skin-friendly finish even for the palest of the pale-skinned beauties.

Medium Skin:

For people with a medium complexion, this is the easiest skin tone to accommodate a bronzer. Just make sure you avoid looking too dirty or glittery. We recommend Bobbi Brown Bronzing Powder in Natural ($40). Apply the bronzer underneath your cheekbones as it creates a glowy, fresh effect that’s perfect for a night out or a sunny afternoon.

Dark Skin:

People with darker skin tone may have trouble finding a perfect bronzer that can actually blend and bronze! Keeping that in mind, we prefer Elizabeth Arden Pure Finish Mineral Bronzing Powder ($35),which is an ideal choice for all months of the year. The powder has plenty of light-reflecting pigments, and the hue is gorgeous for adding some colour to the cheeks.

How To Apply The Bronzer Makeup:

Step 1:

Now, before you start applying your bronzer, begin your routine with the usual cleansing, exfoliating and moisturizing. Once done, take a brush or you can even use your ring finger (since it applies less pressure compared to your index finger), and layer your face with a cream or liquid bronzer, (NARS Matte Multiple, $39).

A simple tip – you can just create the number 3 on both sides of your face and blend it seamlessly. Starting from the top of your forehead and over your cheekbones, dab the cream and sweep it towards your nose and then across your jawline, your chin, and your neck.

Tip: For a deeper and warmer colour, take a tinted moisturizer and apply it before sweeping bronzer all over your face.

Step 2:

Next, take a powder bronzer like Clarins’ Bronzing Duo SPF 15 Mineral Powder Compact ($36), and dust it all over your face in the same way – starting from the hairline, followed by your cheekbones, jawline, chin and the neck.

Tip:If the bronzer looks too strong or dark, take a clean brush and dip it in a translucent powder. Now, tap off the extra powder and lightly swirl the brush over the bronzer to lighten it a bit.

Step 3:

Finish it off by swiping a sheer powder highlighter (like Too Faced Absolutely Invisible Candlelight Powder, $30) to make the bronzer glow on the skin. Packed with natural ingredients, dust this gentle formula above your temples, on your cheekbones, nose, and underneath your cheekbones for a radiant effect.

Need More Colours?

Yes, bronzer warms up the face and gives you a sun-kissed glow, but a pop of coral or rosy-hued cream blush on the apples of the cheeks can brighten up your dull complexion.

Tip: You can avoid peach as the combination can make your skin look orange-y.

So this party season, allow bronzer makeup to be your bold statement look and you’ll be surprised at how it all comes together! If you have any suggestions, please feel free to write to us by commenting in the box below. We value your feedback.
