The Ultimate Deer Makeup Hack
5:44 AMAre you wondering how you can turn into your favorite creature in the next costume party? Is your daughter crying to be Bambi this Halloween? If so, you are in dire need of a detailed makeup tutorial.
Although it may seem quite like an elaborate makeup look, especially if you have done a Google image search, it can be easily mastered by beginner level makeup skills. It also requires the basic makeup articles that you are sure to have in your kit. The look is versatile, and you can go as artsy or as minimalistic as you want. If you intend to impress your friends with this innovative and quirky look at the next party, just follow these easy steps!
To Start With:
- For this look, you will need a clean base or foundation. Since you are probably going to be indoors, there is no need to use one with SPF, which also whites out your face in photographs clicked using a flash.
- For the highlights, you need white face paint or a pale concealer and a bronzer (or a darker foundation will do).
- For the eyes, you need cream eye liner, mascara, white eye shadow, and some really long false eyelashes. You can also use contouring cream to capture the tapering cheekbones of a deer.
- For lips, lipstick is not mandatory, but if you are using, a light pink or nude one is best.
- You need baby powder to make sure the makeup stays in place, and finally a spray of makeup sealer to finish the look.
The Base:
- First of all, prepare your face for makeup by cleansing, toning and moisturizing. If you have large pores or blemishes, you can smooth it out using a primer. The primer also keeps your makeup from slipping off the face when you sweat.
- Now, apply the foundation. Your foundation has to be the perfect color, otherwise it can ruin the look. Take care in picking the right foundation. Sometimes you may not find a foundation the exact color of your skin. In that case, go the extra mile and purchase two shades – one deeper and one lighter than your skin – and mix the two together to get the perfect color. Do this with your fingers to blend it well on the temples and edges of the face.
The Highlights:
- Now that you have the basic layer of foundation in place, it is time to create the highlights. To emulate the white fur around the eyes and nose of the deer, use your white paint or pale concealer to make a T-shaped pale region on your face covering these areas.
- Once you have blended in the concealer around the edges of the T-zone, apply baby powder with a brush to keep it in place.
- Now you have to color your cheeks brown with a bronzer cream or dark foundation. Dot around your cheekbones with the mousse and moving your two fingers in a circular motion, slowly blend them with the foundation and concealer.
- The concealer and the bronzer should be distinguishable, but there should not be any stark border. The contouring can be done here, but it is optional, and if you have not done contouring before, don’t try it now. Again, a fluff of baby powder is to be added here.
The Nose:
- The nose is a very important defining feature of this look. For that, you have to use white paint or concealer again.
- Pat a thick line of concealer down the central line of the nose.
- Using your fingers, even it out down the sides of your nose.
- Now use eyeliner to draw the outlines of your nose to make it look more like a deer nose.
- Your nose has a slightly flattened top. So, from the inner corners of your eyebrow, draw black lines using the liner that descend along the top edge of the nose and meet at the tip. This must be done carefully because the lines must have a uniform width and be straight. To make the tip, first draw an outline in the shape of an animal’s nose. Fill this area with the black liner.
The Eyes:
- A deer has shapely eyes with long lashes. So start off with your eyebrows, making an arch with a dark pencil.
- You can make it as thick or thin as you want (depends on your natural brow), but it should have a good arch.
- Now apply white paint over the upper lid and below the lid, blending as you go. You can use brown eyeshadow for highlighting or a silver eyeshadow to enhance the white look.
- Use white eyeliner on the lower lids. If you can get your hands onto some long, false eyelashes, use them.
- Apply makeup glue on your lids, let it dry out for a minute and then stick the eyelashes on.
- To make your eyelashes longer, cut a pair of eyelashes in half and add them beside the already stuck on lashes.
Finishing Touches:
In essence, the above steps have already completed your beautiful deer look. But to enhance it, you can add white spots to your brown cheeks. You can either make three big dots in a triangular fashion on the rear end of your cheekbones. Or, for a more realistic look, make small dots of varying sizes below the white paint of your eyes.
The Easy One:
If you have a little daughter who wants this makeup, don’t try to put on all of these components as it can make her impatient. Just do the nose and use a powder bronzer to brush a little highlight on the cheek. This is the easiest way to turn your baby girl into a beautiful fawn.
Accessorize:
You can buy deer ear headbands from the internet or make your own – there are various instructions on this DIY project available online. You can even wear a headband and find a few branched twigs to stick in the band on either side of your ear.
You can turn this look into a reindeer look by adding a clown’s nose to your makeup. The options are endless!
