When I have a migraine headache, I look accurately like the poor monkey above. Dull, throbbing, piercing pain in the head makes me unresponsive. It makes my eyes hurt and doesn’t leave me for days on end.

Add to it the nausea, light and sound sensitivity, and what have you got – A lifeless person who cannot perform her everyday activities. The triggering factors for such tiresome headaches include,

  • Stress and tension
  • Certain foods
  • Caffeine, tobacco, alcohol
  • Hormonal changes
  • Changed environment
  • Work pressures

Simple headaches last for shorter durations, though with intense pain.

This pain in the head need not be your jailer. Reflexology is here to rescue you, and this is how.

  1. The method is all about restoring your body’s inner balance. Reflexology works on the belief that our feet, hand, face, and shoulders have energy points (1).
  2. Each point corresponds to a specific organ in the body. These points, when massaged, will infuse energy into the linked organ and stimulate its function. Consequently, a state of well-being prevails (2).
  3. You body’s pressure points for relieving headaches are situated in your feet, hands and face.
  4. Reflexology works well because it cures pain from within while working from outside. All you need to do is have your feet and hands free for massage.
  5. Moreover, you can perform these massages on yourself anytime and feel considerable relaxation.

Knowing there is a solution for headaches and migraines without medical intervention (3), I can’t wait to get started. Here we go.

Reflex Point 1 (Foot):

  1. Remove any socks or shoes you might be wearing.
  2. Sit down comfortably on a chair.
  3. Now, place one foot over the knee of the other.
  4. The first reflex point lies just below the big toe.
  5. Place your thumb at the base of the big toe and press deeply.
  6. Massage slightly around the area for a few seconds and press once again.
  7. Continue to hold the pressure point for 5 minutes.
  8. Once complete, repeat the procedure on the opposite toe.

This point corresponds to the head, including the sinuses, brain, and neck. Massaging the base of the big toe relieves headache as well as stress.

Reflex Point 2 (Foot):

  1. Remain seated with one foot resting on the opposite knee.
  2. Using your thumb, rub the area halfway between the toes and heels.
  3. One pressure point lies below the foot, while another lies on the top behind the second toe.
  4. You can choose any reflex point you feel comfortable with.
  5. Press down gently on the point.
  6. Massage a little and apply pressure for a few minutes.
  7. Repeat on the other foot.

This reflex point connects to the digestive system, particularly the liver. It helps alleviate digestive issues that could contribute to a headache.

Reflex Point 3 (Hand):

  1. Be seated comfortably.
  2. Spread the fingers of one hand apart.
  3. Using the thumb and forefinger of the other hand, press on the thumbnail.
  4. Hold for a few seconds.
  5. Now slowly apply pressure on all the finger nails individually.
  6. Once done, perform the same for the opposite hand.

These points too correspond to the sinuses, brain, head, and eyes. Pressure on these points helps relieve a headache.

Reflex Point 4 (Face):

  1. You can find these reflex points on either side of the bridge of your nose.
  2. They are situated just below the eyebrows, above the eye corners.
  3. With your thumbs, apply enough pressure on the points until you find relief.

Head reflex point helps alleviate sinus related migraine headaches.

As you can see, reflexology is a great stress-buster. No headaches equals no stress, right? Let me know what you think in the comments section below.
