Every woman has a body like Scarlett Johansson hidden inside her. You don’t believe me, do you? Well, it’s just hidden under the fat accumulated over the years.

It’s time to beat flab and look fab again, and strength training will help you with just that. Grab those dumbbells and follow me.

It’s Getting Hot In Here:

Strength training is for anyone who wants to look hot, and that goes for you ladies who assume dumbbells give you muscles (1). If cardio burns calories, a strength training routine defines those sexy muscles. You would not only lose weight, but also tone your body.

Ready to sweat it?

1. Dumbbell Squats:

  1. Make sufficient space around you and stand with feet slightly apart.
  2. Ensure the back is straight.
  3. Hold two light weight dumbbells in each hand.
  4. Bend the arms at the elbows and hold the dumbbells near your shoulders, palms facing forward.
  5. Here, bend your knees and squat into a seating position.
  6. Do not allow your knees to reach past the toes.
  7. Simultaneously, raise your hands above the head.
  8. Hold for a breath and return to the first position.
  9. Continue for at least 15 repetitions.

Squats work on your abs, butt, hamstrings and shoulders.

2. Dumbbell Lunges:

  1. Stand with your feet hip distance apart.
  2. Hold the dumbbells in your hands and let your arms hang to the sides.
  3. Step forward with your right leg and bend at the knee.
  4. As you lower into the lunge, your knee should be at a 90-degree angle to the floor.
  5. The knee of the left leg is now facing the floor.
  6. Your hands should rest on both the sides of your body.
  7. Hold the position for a breath and then return to the first position.
  8. Now step ahead with the left leg and lunge forward.
  9. Continue the lunges for 15 repetitions.

3. Bicep Curls:

  1. Stand with feet slightly apart on the floor.
  2. Hold dumbbells weighing 5 pounds each in either hand.
  3. Start with your arms on either side.
  4. Now, curl them upwards (2).
  5. Bend your arms at the elbows and bring them up towards the shoulders.
  6. Hold the dumbbells firmly, facing towards your body.
  7. Simultaneously, bring your left knee up, parallel to the floor.
  8. Hold the position for a breath.
  9. Return to the first position and switch sides, this time raising the right knee.
  10. Perform 15 repetitions.

In addition to your hamstrings and butt, you will have worked your biceps as well.

4. Forward Squats:

  1. This is a variation of the squats.
  2. You won’t need dumbbells for this.
  3. First, step ahead with your right leg and squat.
  4. Meanwhile, bring both your hands forward and touch the fingers to the floor.
  5. Return to the first position.
  6. Next, step ahead with your left leg.
  7. Squat and touch the fingers to the floor again.
  8. Continue 15 repetitions.

You’re essentially defining your hands, abs, and legs.

5. Plank Raise:

  1. Begin by taking your position on the floor on your forearms and toes.
  2. Balance on your forearms and ensure your body is aligned in a straight line.
  3. Hold for a few seconds.
  4. Slowly raise your hips upwards, making a V shape.
  5. Hold and return.
  6. Perform 15 repetitions.

This is ideal for your upper back and abs too.

To look like the ladies in the pictures who never seem to have gained a pound in their lives, we need to use such exercises to our benefit.

  1. Perform the exercises in cycles, including at least 3 cycles.
  2. Rather than low impact, monotonous movements, these exercises are high intensity with variations that will not be similar to each other.
  3. Incorporate strength training routine for 3-4 days in a week.
  4. Combine the routine with cardio exercises for best fat burning results.
  5. It would take 2 to 3 months to see the sexy side you thought you never had.
  6. Once you do, the lean muscle mass you gain would burn more calories on an average, and so, you would continue to look toned (3).
