10 Best Dressed Men In Films And TV
12:02 AMThere is a reason why there is an academy award for costume designing – the outfit makes the man. When it comes to style, our favorite characters, TV shows, and movies influence us to a large extent. I’m sure quite a few of us picked up a deerstalker, a scarf, and a pipe when Benedict Cumberbatch came into our lives as Sherlock Holmes.
Our favorite characters probably wouldn’t be our favorite if they lacked that je ne sais quoi, and what they wear makes a huge difference in how we perceive them. So here are the 11 best-dressed men from TV shows and movies who have motivated legions of men to dress better.
1. Don Draper (Mad Men)
A chain-smoking alcoholic and a womanizing ad executive, Don Draper from Mad Men is played by Jon Hamm. Always dressed fashionably, the popularity of the notorious Don Draper has brought back the classic American suit that was the hot thing back in the 60s.
2. Neal Caffrey (White Collar)
If anyone can pull off a fedora with class, it’s Matt Bomer. He plays the character of Neal Caffrey, an affable ex-con who works with the FBI. Caffrey’s penchant for style and the finer things in life make him one of the most charming and sophisticated characters the small screen has ever seen.
3. Dr. Hannibal Lecter (Hannibal)
Full-time forensic psychologist and a part-time cannibal, Mads Mikkelsen plays the iconic character of Dr. Hannibal Lecter to perfection. Always someone to go for the finer things in life, you never see him dressed less than impeccably. His style is a little eccentric, but elegant, and has just the right touch of whimsy.
4. Barney Stinson (How I Met Your Mother)
Barney Stinson, played by Neil Patrick Harris, is one of the most iconic characters of our times. And any list that talks about the best dressed characters would be incomplete without the guy who coined the phrase ‘suit up’. For him, there is a suit for every occasion. Who can ever forget the Suitjamas!
5. Harvey Specter (Suits)
Like the high-powered lawyer that he is, Harvey Specter, played by Gabriel Macht, is never without his trademark suit. As a partner in one of the biggest law firms, he dresses to be commanding. According to him, “People respond to how you dress. So like it or not, this is what you have to do.”
6. Frank Underwood (House Of Cards)
It is said that you should dress for the job. And when you play the fictionalized version of the most powerful man in the world, you better be looking your best. President Frank Underwood, politician extraordinaire, played by Kevin Spacey, exudes authority with his perfectly tailored suits.
7. James Bond (Spectre)
The character of James Bond is sophistication personified. Played by several actors over the past four decades, everyone has their own favorite Bond. But if we were to choose one, it would be Daniel Craig from Skyfall/Spectre. We see Bond finally let go of the classic black and white to favor midnight blue tuxes that still, somehow, stay immune to creases through explosions and high-speed chases.
8. Oliver Queen (Arrow)
Billionaire playboy turned superhero, Oliver Queen manages to rock every look he sports. From immaculately tailored suits to slick leather jackets, actor Stephen Amell makes everything look great.
9. Daniel Grayson (Revenge)
Probably the most naïve character caught up in a world tangled with deception, Daniel Grayson from Revenge, played by Josh Bowman, never failed to impress us with his outfits. From preppy khakis to business attires, he seemed to carry everything with ease.
10. Jay Gatsby (The Great Gatsby)
In the 2013 adaptation of Scott Fitzgerald’s masterpiece, The Great Gatsby, the character of Jay Gatsby is played by Leonardo DiCaprio. As the host of the most ostentatious parties in town, you never see him dressed in anything but the finest clothes money can buy.
There are those who dress to impress, and those who dress to inspire. But these characters manage to accomplish both, leaving the men of the world in awe and the women starry-eyed.
