Sugar and carbs are good sources of energy. I was a bit overweight and, hence, decided to cut down my sugar completely. That would mean a bold No to starchy food like potatoes, carb-rich foods like wheat and rye, and also to my favorite ice creams, chocolates, candies, bread spreads, and caramels. It was not easy, and though the first day went pretty easy, the second day and the third day felt like hell. I experienced dizziness and fatigue. On the fourth day, I felt completely sick. I was brave enough to fight it out on the fifth day too, and surprisingly on the sixth day, I found myself adjusted to the new food schedule. I felt completely changed. How? Read below:

Sugar and carbs add weight. My jeans and skirts all loosened up, and my waist became super slim after one month of no sugar diet. You won’t believe me, but it’s true that I lost 30 pounds in just one month, faster and easier than any dietitian’s or health trainer’s magic.

After a month of avoiding sugar, I noticed that my veggie salads had become tastier. In fact, my taste buds could now identify the subtlest of tastes in food, and that was awesome. Some investigations into the research done in the area showed that a continuous intake of carbs and sugars could actually reduce the power of your taste buds.

If you avoid sugar, you would definitely be immune from a host of diseases. I did. I felt lighter, and my concentration levels increased. My mind never got distracted by other things, especially food. Better concentration = better productivity = better performance, and everything feels simply so GOOD.

It is natural to feel a strong craving for your favorite delicacies for a considerable number of days when you are still on a complete no-sugar diet, especially when your friends are throwing a treat of burgers and stuff, or hanging out in pizza outlets. But if you have already cut down your sugar to three weeks or more, you would easily be able to resist the temptation of these, and feel so much confident and empowered.

5. Doesn’t Feel Full

I do not even know what it means by words like bloating, gastric troubles, digestive stress, abdominal pain and cramps, nausea, and that feeling as if your stomach is forever full, now after one month of complete sugar starvation. I completely feel lighter and vibrant.

Feeling tempted to completely avoid sugar after reading this? Well, read the following facts carefully:

  1. You should be ready to eat more at even more frequent intervals to cope with the energy needs of the body as a no-sugar/ no-carb diet would have fewer calories.
  2. I adjusted to the diet pattern from the sixth day onwards. You might, perhaps, take even lesser time, or probably a bit longer. Self-will is the only key to endure the initial pain and sickness.
  3. Drink lots of water and keep your body well hydrated.
  4. Always try to avoid heavyweight duties, especially in the first week of a no-sugar diet.
  5. A no-sugar diet can be more expensive. If you opt for artificial sugar substitutes, you might land up in more trouble than if you consume natural sugar.

We are trained to be addicted to sugars and carbs right from our childhood. Though following a diet minus the sugars and carbs is difficult, it is not completely impossible.
