And as the trend is a bit tricky and versatile, and comes in so many different hues, it’s important to know what hue suits your skin the best. On that note, here’s our shimmer makeup look that we decided to test ourselves. And the result? Flawless skin with sultry eye makeup, tempered with a subtle, beige lip — the perfect metallic marriage.

1. Face:

If you are looking for a way to add a flattering makeup look to your monochrome style, then follow our tutorial below…

Skin Prep:

To achieve a radiant and smooth skin, begin your makeup routine with a fantastic skin preparation.

Once the face is washed with an appropriate cleanser (try Anew Rejuvenate Revitalising 2-in-1 Gel Cleanser), gently exfoliate your face and neck to polish away dull dry skin, diminish dark spots, boost radiance and minimise skin dullness. We recommend Kiehl’s Clearly Corrective White Skin Brightening Exfoliator.

Follow this by a toner – like, Nourish Organic Face Toner Refreshing & Balancing Face Toner – applied to your face and neck with a cotton pad. Toner is optional, but if you have skin breakouts or intense dryness or even acne-prone skin, you should add this to your must-to-do step list.

Once done with toning, moisturize your skin with Kiehl’s Ultra Facial Moisturizer SPF 15. This milky product will protect your skin from the sun and pollution and will keep your skin soft all day long.

Finally, to avoid makeup faux pas, use a primer (like bareMinerals Prime Time Foundation Primer) for flawless results. Infused with everything your skin could ever need, this is a great face primer that is made to combat all skin types, make large pores look less noticeable and protect your skin from any damage. All this while it maintains hydration and holds your makeup without creasing – perfect!

Contour + Highlight:

To achieve this perfect contouring, use a brush, sponge or even your fingers and apply contour product in the depth of the temples, hollows of your cheekbones, on the sides and tip of your nose, under the jaw line, and around your hairline. Our favourite is Tom Ford Beauty Shade & Illuminate.

Tip: Make sure the contour palette (or if you are using a foundation) is two shades darker.

Next, apply your lighter hue, which is an illuminate portion of the palette. Highlight your cheekbones, the areas between your brows, under your eye brow arch and down the bridge of your nose, and blend it evenly for a camera-ready glow.

Tip: For highlighting, take a shade lighter than your skin.

Blush:

Complete your look by gently dusting True Match Barely Blushing W3-5 on the apples of your cheeks and you’re all set!

2. Metallic Eyes:

To give your boring smokey look that extra wow-factor, take advantage of this season’s shiny, metallic two-tone eyeshadow.

It’s all about the eyes. First, use your fluffy shadow brush and dust a glittering silver eyeshadow on your upper lid and to the creaseline. Now, take a darker shadow and swipe it to the outer corner of the eye. Smudge the colour with your fingertips and blend it evenly.
