This season, Queen Cleopatra, the last active pharaoh of Ancient Egypt, is getting a modern twist for Halloween! Partly because she was one of the most famous female rulers in history and partly due to her glamorous tastes in makeup. Ahead, we get you five crazy-DIY makeup looks that are far from simple, but, you can still try at home, and that’s something we love.

Bold, colourful and dramatic – this Cleopatra inspired eye makeup is all about perfect execution.

Conceal:

To recreate this visually striking look, start your eye makeup routine by cleansing your eyes. We prefer our favourite non-greasy and non-oily, The Body Shop Camomile Gentle Eye Make-Up Remover ($15.50). Next, dab a bit of concealer, like L’Oreal Paris Visible Lift CC Eye Concealer ($9.99) to hide dark circles or some random redness and prevent your eyeshadow from creasing. Once done, apply a wash of white eyeshadow all over the lid. We recommend NYX Cosmetics Eyeshadow Base In White ($ 7) which will be your base for the eyeshadow and will also create a dimension.

Draw Fine Lines:

Once done, take Bobbi Brown Long-Wear Gel Eyeliner in Black Ink ($25) and create thick doe-shaped eyes (below your bottom lashes) that are winged towards the brown bone. Now use the same gel-based black liner and draw a symmetrical fine line starting from the curve of your eyebrows towards the winged line.

Blue Eyeshadow:

Next comes the more daring and exciting step – colouring in the eyelids. Take your flat brush, preferably M.A.C 239 Eye Shader Brush ($25), and fill your eyelids with NARS Rated R Duo Eyeshadow ($35).

Roller Lash:

Now before you swipe on your mascara, curl your lashes with an eyelash curler. We recommend Surratt Relevée Lash Curler ($25). Surratt will help you open up your eyes immediately. Once you have curled your eyes, wiggle on coats of mascara on your lashes. We are a massive fan of this affordable Maybelline The Colossal Volum’ Express Mascara, $7.77, for it’s perfectly piece-y and long, lush lashes.

2. Winged Eyes:

As much as we love winged eyes, we can’t seem to disagree that they are quite difficult to do. Either it smudges from the corner or getting the lines perfectly straight becomes a far-off dream. But luckily, we found a simple way to make things easy and smudge-free for you. So read the Cleopatra inspired tutorial below, and maybe next time you can ask a girl with winged eyeliner why she’s late!

Conceal:

Like any other eye makeup routine, start with preparing your eyes. Cleansing and moisturizing, basically. People with dry skin can use Tea Tree Foaming Facial Cleanser ($13.50) and Paula’s Choice’s Moisture Boost Hydrating Treatment Cream ($26). Next, dot a small amount of Clinique Airbrush Concealer ($19.50), to camouflage your imperfect skin.

Blazing Yellow:

To get this look at home, take a flat brush and apply Make Up For Ever Eyeshadow in Matte Brilliant Yellow ($20), on your eyelidsSmudge the colour towards the outer corner of the eyelids.

Doe Eyes:

Now take Stila Stay All Day Waterproof Liquid Eye Liner ($20), and evenly create the line, starting from the top lashline followed by the bottom lashes. Make sure you extend both the lines in the end, and once you are done, connect both the flicks.

Lash Out:

Finish the look by swiping a long-lasting waterproof mascara. We recommend L’Oréal Voluminous Mascara in Carbon Black ($8.49), to get that full-on glam lashes. To apply the mascara perfectly, hold the brush at the root of the lashes and stroke it upwards.

3. Colored Lashes:

These yellow and black falsies are a good way to get dramatic lashes. You can find them anywhere, reuse them if you want and are easy-to-use.

Falsies:

  • After preparing your eyes with Origins A Perfect World Deep Cleanser ($23.50), apply MAC Pro Longwear Concealer ($20) to correct the pigmentation of your imperfect eyes.
  • Once the concealer sets in, apply a wash of Shiseido Luminizing Satin Eye Color in Solaris ($25) eyeshadow to the lids and brow bone.
  • Now use Estée Lauder Pure Color Gelée Powder EyeShadow in Fire Sapphire ($24) on your eyelids and blend it evenly.
  • Outline your upper lash line with L’Oreal Paris Superliner Superstar Eye Liner Black ($ 6.72).
  • Now stick a super-fluttery and dramatic set of Shu Uemura False Eyelashes to your lashes and stick them carefully.
  • Swipe few coats of L’Oréal Voluminous Carbon Black Volume Building Mascara ($7.99).

This heavy bronzer makeup look is at an another level.

  • Prepare your face by cleansing first. We prefer Mario Badescu Glycolic Foaming Cleanser. Now exfoliate your skin with Soap & Glory The Greatest Scrub of All. Once done, moisturise with Stila Sheer Color Tinted Moisturizer.
  • Next, use Maybelline Fit Me! Dewy + Smooth Foundation and blend it smoothly.
  • Now, apply a highlighter, we recommend Revlon PhotoReady Skinlights Face Illuminator which is easy to apply and blend.

Once done, dust an ultra lightweight formula Laura Mercier Matte Baked Blush in Ritual ($36) on your face, starting from your cheekbones, chin and forehead and blend it evenly. The formula though is rich in colour, gives golden-looking finish but moisturizes and softens your skin perfectly.
